2007 VINTAGE REVIEWS

Connoisseurs' Guide Gap's Crown Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
Nicely ripened and redolent of sweet cherries, milk chocolate and just a touch of dried flowers in the nose, this well-composed youngster conveys plenty of the same ripe-fruit richness once in the mouth and does so with nary a suggestion of fat. Very well balanced and already showing a bit of sideways expansion on the palate, it is built to get better and will please even more in a couple of years.
Two puffs, 92 points.

Connoisseurs' Guide Brosseau Vineyard, Chalone
Wines from this vineyard often strike us as being a little austere and tight-fisted when it comes to evident fruit, but this ample and fairly expressive effort is neither. Long on ripe cherries and infused with lots of sweet oak, it is at once both outgoing and very well-structured with youthful acidity making its mark at the finish. While not a reserved wine that demands patient aging, it is very much one with a future, and it promises to improve for another few years.
One puff, 90 points.

Burghound Brosseau Vineyard, Chalone
An elegant mix of floral notes, particularly violet, adds refinement to the raspberry, pomegranate and cranberry suffused nose that serves as a beguiling introduction to the pure, clean and focused flavors that possess an equally sophisticated and refined mouth feel, all wrapped in a dusty, delicious, complex and lingering finish that is also attractively dry. This appears to be the class of the range in 2007.

Burghound Gap's Crown Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
An expressive and beautifully complex nose combines both upper and lower register fruit aromas with notes of underbrush, earth and crushed herb that continue over to the round, delicious and vibrant middle weight flavors blessed with good dry extract and I like the detail on the mildly edgy finish that will probably round out in time though it's presently somewhat youthfully awkward.

Burghound Wiley Vineyard, Anderson Valley
A very pretty nose features red pinot, plum and violet-tinged aromas that precede delicious, rounded and fresh middle weight flavors that are on the fruit-driven side but that does not detract from the wine's overall appeal as the finish is balanced and lingering. About the only nit worth mentioning is thatthe complexity is currently limited.

Burghound Iund Vineyard, Carneros
Here the nose is more aromatically complex than the Wiley with the typical herbal quality of Carneros-based pinots that adds nuance to the ripe, pure, fresh and attractive red and blue berry fruit spectrum that complements well the equally delicious, intense and well-detailed medium-bodied flavors that possess slightly better depth on the agreeably dry and lingering finish. This is really lovely and though it could be approached now, I would be inclined to age it for 2 or 3 years first.

Pinot File Brosseau Vienyard, Chalone
With some time in the glass, this wine explodes with bright black fruits enhanced by aromas of restrained oakdriven spice and toast. More fullness, more creamy fruit and more pizzazz than other wines in the lineup. The black raspberry and blackberry fruit core is mouth filling but not jammy. Despite its prodigious fruit, this is a pretty wine that finishes light with a memorable lingering aromatic presence. There is a healthy tannic backbone and perfectly balanced acidity predicting good age ability. The best wine I have ever had from this vineyard.

Wine Enthusiast, Harrington 2006 Pinot Noir, Brosseau Vineyard, Chalone
Extraordinarily rich and ripe, just explodes with cherry jam, crushed black raspberries and sweet toasted oak and vanilla flavors. But it is not a simple fruit bomb. Crisp acidity and a deep, fine tannin structure give it complexity and a limited ageability. Good now through 2012.

Wine Enthusiast, Harrington 2006 Pinot Noir, Wild Horse Valley, Napa County
The valley is in a remote part of Napa County. The wine is quite good. Rich and softly opulent, it offers waves of red cherry, raspberry, chocolate, orange tea, anise and Asian spice flavors that go on and on. Not and ager, but delicious now and through 2011 or so.

Wine and Spirits, Harrington 2006 Pinot Noir, Gap's Crown Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
The Petaluma Gap draws fog across the coastal flats toward this rocky hillside vineyard on the western face of Sonoma Mountain. The wine has the cool, sour cherry flavors of pinot noir grown farther out along Sonoma's far coast along with a subtle, pungent acidity under the smooth finish. Youthfully tight, this should develop well over the next several years.

Wine Spectator, Harrington 2006 Pinot Noir, Wiley Vineyard, Anderson Valley
A sleek, elegant, focused style with spicy black cherry and raspberry fruit that's intense and well-balanced, ending with a minerally, pebbly aftertaste.

Connoisseurs' Guide, Harrington 2006 Pinot Noir, Gap's Crown Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
The leader of the Harrington Pinot pack, this wine comes with a full palate of cherry and raspberry fruit in its aromas and backs all that up with hints of smoke, caramel and roasted nuts. It is fully weighted but impeccably balanced on the palate, and its early bit of flesh and suppleness finds both firming acids and solidifying tannins in complimentary roles. Its youth makes it a tad on the rough cut side at this point, but a few years of bottle age will do wonders and are recommended.

Connoisseurs' Guide, Harrington 2006 Pinot Noir, Brosseau Vineyard, Chalone
A broader, more open and obvious wine than its mate above, this one is plumb and plummy in character to the Gap's Crown in that this one invited the kind of early enjoyment that is beyond the previous wine at this writing. The full aromas and mouthfilling palatal impressions emphasize the ripe fruit aspects of the wine, and so does the slight note of heat. Still, the wine is all about enjoyment today with the likes of a standing rib roast.

Wine Spectator, Harrington 2005 Pinot Noir, Gap's Crown, Sonoma Coast
This wine has a seductive toasty oak character but also a ripe, vivid black cherry and chocolate raspberry edge. The flavors are intense without being heavy, deep without being dense.

Wine Spectator, Harrington 2005 Pinot Noir, Iund Vineyard, Carneros
Sleek and tight, with a mineral and pebble edge to the lean cherry and berry flavors which show their complexity and concentration as the finish sails.

Wine Spectator, Harrington 2005 Pinot Noir, Maurice Galante Vineyard, Russian River Valley
Tight and well-structured, witha firm beam of earthy mineral, blackberry and raspberry fruit that is tight and delicate, with fresh, lively acidity.

Wine Spectator, Harrington 2004 Pinot Noir, Sonoma County
Fragant rose petal, plum and wild berry aromas are delicate and fine-grained on the palate, offering intensity, balance and length. Ends with a dash of citrus.
