Three Rare Birds $90 regular price, discount $66 / 3 bottles
This is a selection of three very rare grapes, Corvina, Alvarelhao and Charbono and all three originally from different countries. Yes, Corvina is indeed a fish, but it is also a grape from the Veneto region of Northeastern Italy where it is the main grape of Bardolino, Valpolicella and Amarone wines. Alvarelhao hails from the Douro region in Portugal where it is included in Port blends for its lovely floral aromatic profile. Alvarehao is still unusual, even in Portugal, and rarely bottled on its own. Sounding like it should come from Italy, Charbono is actually from France’s Savoie. Noted for its ability to age, this 2012 wine is just getting started. These wines are sold together because they are all on the lighter, brighter end of the fruit spectrum. Expect fresh fruit along with spice and fine acidity from all three.

Truffle-Pairing Wines for the Fall  $105 regular price, discount $84 / 3 bottles
The Piemonte region of Northern Italy is the home of Nebbiolo, the king of Italian wines. It is also the ground zero for the world most prized mushroom, the white truffle. This is a intensely aromatic delicacy that is best paired with Nebbiolo and is enjoyed every Fall. And yes, Italian truffles are extremely expensive, so you might want to pair this wine with the more affordable truffles now available from Oregon and California. One bottle from the 2011, 2014 and 2015 vintages, all from the Luna Matta Vineyard in Paso Robles.

Rhone Rebellion $90 regular price, discount $66 / 3 bottles
The three wines in this offer, the 2015 Grenache, 2017 Mourvedre and 2015 Subrosa, a blend of the previous two along with a touch of Syrah, are all vinified from grapes from the Rhone region of France. The Subrosa and Mourvedre were sourced from the Sumu Kaw Vineyard in El Dorado County. Yes, this vineyard was surrounded by the recent Caldor Fire, so but so far, the fire has not damaged the vineyard. Our thoughts are with two of my favorite growers, Sheila and Dave Bush, till the last ruinous embers of this fire have been doused. These three wines are on the delicate side of the Rhone spectrum owing to the Sumu Kaw vineyard’s 3000 foot elevation and decomposed granite soils. Expect these 3 wines to provide extreme food friendliness with bright fruit flavors and lively aromatics.

Tree Ol’ Fella Pinots $135 regular price, discount $99 / 3 bottles
Three lovely old Pinot Noirs from the winery’s misspent youth. The limestone soils of the Brosseau Vineyard have given this rich and spicy wine perfect bones for aging. One of the first vintages from the now-famous Gap’s Crown Vineyard in Sonoma. And our first commercial, no sulfite Terrane Pinot Noir from the Thompson organic vineyard. All drinking beautifully, in their prime.
2004 Pinot Noir, Brosseau Vineyard, Chalone
2007 Pinot Noir, Gap’s Crown Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
2009 Pinot Noir, Terrane, Mendocino, organic vineyard, no sulfite wine
